Tony was diagnosed with incurable advance stage prostate cancer in May 2017 and is currently receiving treatment at The Christie. A keen runner, Tony has previously completed the Comrades Ultra Marathon and was one of the first 30 people in the UK to complete the World Marathon Majors. He also completed two full marathons in April this year prior to his diagnosis.
Since Tony began treatment running has been a major challenge for his body due to the side effects of the treatment and also a reduction in testosterone in his body. But, his positive spirit and determination ensured that he completed the Manchester Half Marathon in one hour 56 minutes, only 17 minutes more than the previous year before his diagnosis, and he raised an incredible £4,700!
Tony says, “The Christie and its people do amazing work helping people like me. It was a pleasure to take on the Manchester Half Marathon and raise much needed funds for them whilst I’m fit and well enough to do so. Those words ‘cancer’ and ‘incurable’ are something that it would be wonderful if no one else ever has to hear.”
