Charity signs up brave TV stars
Press Release Posted 27 February 2012
The Christie charity has encouraged two TV
stars, Ryan Thomas and Chris Bisson to zoom across the Theatre of
Dreams Sunday 4th March.
The Manchester United Zip Slide glides a whopping 180m
from the West Stand, giving daring fundraisers a rare view of the
world-famous stadium. The event will raise money for care of young
cancer patients, such as Claire Matthews, who is taking part in the
event herself. She said: "I was successfully treated at The
Christie's Young Oncology Unit in 1999 and again in 2010. I fully
appreciate how much the staff makes living with cancer all the more
bearable. To show my thanks, I have vowed to brave the zip slide
this year!"
Ryan Thomas said:
"The Christie is a highly respected cancer centre and its
charity hosts some action packed events, which are ideal for
encouraging people of all ages to get stuck in and do something
good with their time."
This is not the first time Ryan, who is a patron of the charity,
has fundraised for The Christie, after he donated his £10,000
winnings from ITV game show The Cube last year.
He continues:
"It's a cause very close to my own heart as my Nan was
treated there a few years ago. It is great to be involved and
I look forward to meeting the fundraisers on the day."
Chris adds:
"I'm a massive red, so it's amazing to hear I can zip
slide across one of the world's most famous football stadiums,
while helping to raise money for a worthwhile cause."
Chris Bisson, who plays Jai in Emmerdale and Ryan Thomas, Jason
Grimshaw in Coronation Street, will be at the stadium to join other
fundraisers and The Christie's Chief Executive, Caroline Shaw, next
weekend.
The entry fee is just £20 and minimum sponsorship is £200,
making a huge difference to young people diagnosed with cancer.
