Spotlight events

Our next Spotlight event focuses on lung cancer research.

This is an exclusive chance to hear from Professor Fiona Blackhall about how The Christie and our partners are at the forefront of some of the most exciting developments in lung cancer treatment.

Lung cancer is now the biggest cause of premature death in Greater Manchester. Progress has been made in identifying sub-types of this disease and developing targeted treatments, however there is still much more research to do.

We are focusing on giving as many patients as possible access to clinical trials and not only that, but we are using molecular profiling to match patients to the best possible treatments, based on the genetic make-up of their cancer. Other ongoing work includes research into immunotherapy which uses the immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells, and early detection and prevention of lung cancer.

The Christie charity is currently helping to fund a number of research posts within the lung cancer research team. Continued funding is vital as it pays for the researchers and essential equipment, which in turn helps us to get new treatments to patients faster and extend their lives.

Spotlight events are a chance to celebrate the impact that you, our supporters, have on patients every day. They are free to attend and open to anyone who would like to hear more about our work.

The event will take place in the auditorium at the Education Centre (department 17), The Christie, Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 4BX. Registration will be available 30 minutes prior to the event.
